Elizabethtown Clinches Playoff Berth with 82-63 Win over Moravian
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown clinched the final available berth in the Commonwealth Conference men's basketball playoffs with an 82-63 home win over Moravian College in the Blue Jays' final regular season game Saturday. With the win, Etown improves to 14-11 overall and 8-6 in the conference, and the Blue Jays will finish fourth in the conference regular season standings. Moravian drops to 7-18 overall and 5-9 in the conference with the loss.
Etown cruised out to a 46-30 lead over Moravian by halftime. The Blue Jays made 52.6% (30-for-57) of their shots from the field for the game, while Moravian hit 37.7% (20-for-53).
Jon Connor (Hershey, PA/Hershey) led Etown in scoring with 22 points as he hit 7 of 12 shots from the field, went 4-for-7 from three-point range, and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) added 12 points. Andrew Flynn (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) added 11 points for Etown by shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free throw line. Brian Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) scored 11 Etown points and pulled down six rebounds from off the bench. He made every shot he took in the game, going 3-for-3 from the field, 1-for-1 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Ed Reid (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) led Moravian in scoring with 14 points. Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) scored 13 points for the Greyhounds and led all players in the game in rebounds with eight. Steve Wenderfer (Chester, NJ/Mendham) added 10 points and six rebounds for Moravian.
Elizabethtown will now advance to face top-seeded Albright College on the road in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs Wednesday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m..
