ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Wins Villa Julie Legg Mason Classic Title with 86-72 Victory over Trinity (Conn.) STEVENSON, Md. --- Elizabethtown won the 2006 Villa Julie College Legg Mason Classic tournament title Sunday night with an 86-72 win over Trinity College (Conn.). Etown improves to 8-4 overall with the win, while Trinity drops to 9-3. Trinity out-rebounded Etown 38-25 over the course of the game, but Etown held a 11-7 edge in steals as Trinity turned the ball over 27 times. The Blue Jays also shot 57.7% (30-for-52) from the field, 50.0% (5-for-10) from three point range and 67.7% (21-for-31) from the fre throw line. Trinity made 25 out of 56 shots (44.6%) from the field, just three out of 15 attempts (20.0%) from three-point range, and hit 19 out of 26 (73.1%) free throw attempts. Etown held a 40-30 advantage at halftime. For the second day in a row, Brian Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) led the Etown offense in scoring, this time tallying 20 points to bring his total for the tournament to 48, and he pulled down four rebounds. Greg Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored 17 points for Etown and had four assits, and Michael Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) scored 17 points from off the bench and had three assists and three steals. Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) led the Blue Jays in rebounds with five, and he scored 13 points. Tyler Rhoten was Trinity’s top scorer with 34 points and top rebounder with 10 rebounds. Kino Clarke added 11 points and seven rebounds for Trinity. The Blue Jays will return to action at home Wednesday, January 11 against Juniata College in an 8:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
