Blue Jays Defeat Juniata 77-66 in Commonwealth Conference Game
ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown won a 77-66 Commonwealth Conference road game over Juniata College Wednesday night, dropping the host Eagles to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in the conference and improving the Blue Jays to 14-7 overall and 6-5 in the Commonwealth.
Etown carried a 31-26 lead into halftime, and an Etown run early in the second half put the game away. The Blue Jays out-rebounded Juniata 33-29, and Etown shot 12-for-20 (60%) from the field in the second half and 22-for-51 (43.1%) from the field for the game. Juniata shot 10-for-16 (62.5%) from the field in the first half and 21-for-47 (44.7%) from the field for the entire game. Etown made 27 out of 36 free throw attempts (75%), while Juniata went 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the free throw line.
Brad Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) led four Etown players in double-digit scoring as he totaled 19 points on a 7-for-14 performance from the field and 5-for-7 shooting from the free throw line. He also led Etown in rebounds with eight and in steals with three. Brian Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) added 14 points and six rebounds for the Blue Jays. He went 5-for-8 from the field, 1-for-3 from three-point range, and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Greg Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) added 12 points and hit two three-pointers for Etown, and Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored 11 points.
Travis Boyd led Juniata in scoring with 20 points and in rebounds with eight. He shot 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range. Tommy McConnell led Juniata in assists with five and scored 17 points as he shot 4-for-6 from the field, 2-for-3 from behind the arc and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. As a team, Juniata threw up 20 three-point attempts and made nine of them (45%).
Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, February 11 at home against conference rival Widener University in a 4:00 p.m. game.
