ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Lebanon Valley Edges Elizabethtown, 78-70 ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Dan Hodge connected on six three-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points to lift Lebanon Valley College to a 78-70 victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Hodge broke a 68-68 tie on a three-pointer with 1:06 left, then added another trey with 40 seconds to go as the Dutchmen (9-14 overall, 3-5 Commonwealth) ended the game with a 10-2 run to finish the season sweep of the Blue Jays (15-7 overall, 2-6 Commonwealth). Sophomore Mike Church (Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) finished with a career-high 22 points while senior Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added 20 points for Elizabethtown, which shot 35.7 percent (25-for-70) from the field as a team in the contest. Lebanon Valley led 56-44 with 11:22 to play in the second half, but Elizabethtown answered with a 10-1 run to cut the Dutchmen lead to 57-54 with 9:12 remaining. The Dutchmen built their lead back to 66-56 with 5:41 left, but the Blue Jays countered with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 68-68 on a three-point play by senior Mike Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) with 1:31 left. Hodge then hit three-pointers on back-to-back Lebanon Valley possessions to give the Dutchmen a 74-68 lead with 40 seconds to go, and Dustin Kerns and Kyle Enoch hit two foul shots each in the final 18 seconds to clinch the win. Elizabethtown dashed to a 9-2 lead in the game's first four minutes, but Lebanon Valley fought back to take its first lead at 15-13 on a layup by Eric Humphrey with 10:57 left in the half. The Dutchmen led 38-31 at intermission as Kerns led a balanced Lebanon Valley attack with seven points, while Church paced the Blue Jays with nine points on 4-for-6 shooting. Joining Church and Piersol in double figures for the Blue Jays was Schatzmann, who tallied 16 points and four steals. Enoch finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Dutchmen, while Kerns added 10 points and four rebounds and James Shinn totaled 12 points and six boards. Lebanon Valley shot 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the field and 10-for-19 from three-point range in the game.
