Etown Breezes to 14-4 Win over MAC Rival Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with a 14-4 home win over Susquehanna University (5-7, 4-4) Wednesday afternoon.

Etown held a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 7-2 advantage by halftime. Justin Griffey (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) and Frankie Puzzangara (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) led Etown in scoring with three goals each, and Griffey had one assist. Brian Ginter (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) scored two goals and had one assist for Etown, and Matt Seiboth (Havertown, PA/Haverford) scored one goal and led Etown in assists with three.

Etown senior Matt Newell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) inched closer to becoming the first Etown men's lacrosse player ever to reach the 100 career goal plateau with one goal scored against Susquehanna. He now has 96 goals with two games remaining in the regular season. Ryan Smetana (Conowingo, MD/John Carroll) scored one goal and had one assist for Etown, and Dave Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Twp.), Paul Wisneski (Cheyney, PA/Henderson) and Gary Senese (West Chester, PA/Tatnall) each scored one goal for the Blue Jays. Defender Chris McCrea (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) led Etown in ground balls with nine.

Matt Dimler (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central), Greg Burns (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg), Chris Thompson (Chadds Ford, PA/Wilmington Friends) and Sean Diminick (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) each scored single goals for Susquehanna.

Etown will return to action in its final regular season home game of 2005 Saturday, April 23 when it hosts FDU-Florham in a 1:00 p.m. MAC game.
