STEVENS TECH, EASTERN MENNONITE NET WINS IN FIRST ROUND OF ETOWN CLASSIC; JAYS WILL FACE CONCORDIA SATURDAY

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Kurt Hostetler broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 78th minute to lead Eastern Mennonite to a 3-1 win over Elizabethtown in the first round of the 1998 Financial Trust/Brothers Pizza Classic on Friday.

In the day's other first round match, Dan Roveto scored the breakaway golden goal late in the second overtime to push Stevens Tech past Concordia (Minn.), 2-1.

Stevens (1-0) will face Eastern Mennonite (2-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a game that will decide the Classic champion.  Etown squares off with Concordia (2-1) at 2 p.m.

The Blue Jays (1-3) opened the scoring against EMU when Joe Franc drilled home a one-timer off a beautiful set-up from Daniel Harris in the 11th minute.  The goal was Franc's third of the season and the assist was the first point of Harris' collegiate career.

The Royals, however, tied the game at the 19:49 mark when Jason Yoder knocked in a rebound following a direct kick.

EMU goalie Joseph El Attar preserved the 1-1 score with a spectacular save in the 69th minute, recovering to stop a point-blank shot off the foot of Etown's Adam Dively.

Hostetler then knocked in a rebound for his first goal of the 1998 campaign and Ryan Brenneman added insurance with his second goal of the season in the contest's final minute.

El Attar made three saves to pick up his third win of the season for EMU.  Chris Hepler made four stops for the Blue Jays, who are still seeking the 600th victory in program history.
