MESSIAH WINS COMMONWEALTH WITH 1-0 DECISION OVER ETOWN; JAYS ON THE ROAD FOR MAC PLAYOFFS
GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Jake Sauer scored on a goalmouth scramble in the 64th minute to give Messiah a 1-0 win over Elizabethtown in MAC Commonwealth League action on Saturday. With the loss, the Blue Jays fell to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the league.With the win, Messiah (14-3, 6-0) captured the Commonwealth League championship and insured that Etown will open the MAC playoffs on the road against the Freedom League champion. Conference semifinal matches are slated for Wednesday, November 4.
Scott McCullough picked up an assist on the gamewinner while Falcon goalie Chris Boyles made two saves to earn the win. Doug Timm stopped eight shots for the Blue Jays.
Etown, which entered the game ranked 24th
in Division III, returns to action on Wednesday, October 28 at Juniata
College. Game time is 3 p.m.
