ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Etown Opens Conference Play with 1-0 Win over Widener, Blue Jays Now 5-1-2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown, currently ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region of NCAA Division III, opened its 2002 Commonwealth Conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Widener at home Wednesday night. Etown improves to 5-1-2 overall with the win, while Widener drops to 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference with the loss. The Blue Jays fired off 21 shots before they finally scored with just 12:17 remaining in the game. Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk) scored the golden goal, taking advantage of an open net following a cross by Brian Healy (Newark, DE/Dundalk). The goal was one of seven shots Custer took in the game. In all, Elizabethtown out-shot Widener 25-9, pumping out 12 shots in the first half and 13 in the second. The Blue Jays also held a 9-2 advantage over Widener in corner kicks. Widener goaltender Mike Huminski (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) made 12 saves, and Etown goalie Michael Ciattei (Jarretsville, MD/St. Paul's School-Baltimore) made seven saves to preserve Etown's shutout.
