Etown Wins Manhattanville Valiant Cup with 2-1 Win over Tournament Host

PURCHASE, N.Y. --- Elizabethtown won the 2003 Manhattanville Valiant Cup Sunday with a 2-1 win over the host in the tournament championship game. Etown improves to 6-1 overall with the win. Manhattanville drops to 4-5 overall with the loss.

Brennan Reichenbach (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) scored the Blue Jays' opening goal just 5:34 into the game. Andrew Kummerer (Glenmoore, PA/Coatesville) and Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) both assisted the goal. Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk) added an unassisted insurance goal at 63:40.

It turned out Etown needed the insurance, as, with just 30 seconds remaining in the game, Manhattanville's Justin Brooks-Ward scored to cut Etown's lead in half.

Elizabethtown out-shot Manhattanville 24-4. The two teams were even in corner kicks with three each. Manhattanville goalie AJ Kretschner made 11 saves, and Michael Ciattei (Jarrettsville, MD/St. Paul's School-Baltimore) had three saves in the Etown net.

Etown will return to action in its 2003 Commonwealth Conference opener at home against Lebanon Valley Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m.
