Moravian Shocks Fifth-Ranked Etown with 1-1 Tie
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian has done it again. The team that last year knocked Elizabethtown out of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs with a stunning upset in the first round and that this year shocked defending national champion Messiah with a 0-0 tie, tied Elizabethtown, currently ranked fifth in the nation and first in the Mid-Atlantic Region, 1-1 in Bethlehem Sunday afternoon. Moravian improves to 1-8-2 overall 0-1-2 in the conference with the tie. Etown drops to 8-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, Etown forward Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk) broke the stalemate at 72:12 with a goal off assists from Brian Albrecht (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) and Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont). Etown's lead was short lived, however, as Moravian's Neil Untenahrer scored unassisted just over three minutes later.
Elizabethtown out-shot Moravian 30-6, and the Blue Jays held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Etown will return to action in a key regional match-up against Muhlenberg, which is currently ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, at home Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.
