Etown Blows Out Moravian 5-0, Improves to 6-0 in Conference
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 12-2-2 overall and 6-0 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 5-0 road blowout of Moravian College Monday. The game was the makeup of a previously rained out contest. Moravian dropped to 5-10-2 overall and 2-4 in the conference with the loss.
Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) led the Etown offense with two goals and one assist on the day. He scored the Blue Jays’ first goal off an assist by Zach Galbraith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) 39 seconds before the end of the first half.
Etown’s other four goals all came in the second half. Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored off a Helsel assist at 57:40 to give Etown a 2-0 lead. At 60:49, Etown went up 3-0 as Andrew Kummerer (Glenmoore, PA/Coatesville) scored off a Steve Petrosky (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) assist. Helsel’s second goal came at 74:40 off a Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont) assist to give Etown a 4-0 advantage, and the final goal came at 77:02 when Dan Flaherty (West Chester, PA/Henderson) scored the first goal of his collegiate career off an assist by James Runyon (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong).
Etown out-shot Moravian 22-4 over the course of the game, and the Blue Jays had nine shots on goal against two for the host Greyhounds.
Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. against Alvernia College. It is Etown’s final non-conference game of the season.
