Elizabethtown Edges Susquehanna 2-1 in Conference Opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College edged Susquehanna University 2-1 in Selinsgrove Wednsday night in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams. Elizabethtown improves to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win, while Susquehanna drops to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.

Susquehanna’s Seth Baughman scored the game’s first goal off a Justin Makar assist at 30:43. Elizabethtown evened the score two and a half minutes later as Jeff Warusz (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) scored off a Brennan Reichenbach (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area) assist. The game winner came early in the second half at 54:26 when James Runyon (Hoptacong, NJ/Hoptacong) scored off a Michael Terry (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) assist.

Susquehanna out-shot Elizabethtown 11-9 over the course of the game. Etown goalie A.J. Fleisher (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown Area) made seven saves, and Susquehanna goalie Austin Kelsey had two saves. Elizabethtown held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, September 23 in a 1:00 p.m. game against Lycoming College.
