ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Wednesday, September 19, 2007 Andrew Filewicz Scores Twice in Second Half to Boost Elizabethtown to 2-1 Win over Muhlenberg ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- First-year student Andrew Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Northeast Catholic) scored the first two goals of his collegiate career, including the game-winner with 3:46 remaining in regulation, to give Elizabethtown College a 2-1 victory over Muhlenberg College in non-conference men's soccer action at Ira R. Herr Field. The goals by Filewicz erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and gave the Blue Jays (6-1-0 overall) their sixth consecutive victory and eighth straight home win dating to last season. The Mules (3-2-0 overall) led 1-0 at halftime after Brendan Carroll scored on a blast following a feed from Billy Dalton with 2:55 left in the opening half. However, the Blue Jays tied the score with 27:09 remaining as a cross by first-year student Adam Scheibeler (Montoursville, PA/Loyalsock Twp.) was played by senior Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) over to Filewicz, who headed home his first career goal. With less than four minutes left, the Blue Jays went ahead for good as a shot by junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) was fumbled by Mule keeper Peter Bennett, allowing Filewicz to corral the loose ball and score with 3:46 to go. The Blue Jays finished with a 10-6 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks over the Mules. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) picked up his sixth straight victory in goal for the Blue Jays by making three saves, while Bennett tallied four stops for the Mules.
