Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Elizabethtown College Athletes Continue Parade of Distinction at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships DECATUR, Ill. – Late yesterday and earlier today, members of the Elizabethtown College men’s and women’s track & field teams continued to make their mark on the Division III championships being held at Millikin University. Last night, senior Dave Berdan (Dingman’s Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) finished second in the nation in the men’s 10,000m with a time of 30:42.07, less than a second behind the national champion from the University of Chicago. Berdan led briefly early in the race, fell back to sixth place with a mile to go, and finished with a blazing kick, nearly catching the winner. He earned All-American honors; this is his first time as an All-American. Earlier today, senior and team co-captain Carrie Kerna (MacMurray PA/Peters Township) qualified as one of eight runners for Saturday’s final heat in the women’s 100m hurdles with the second-fastest qualifying time of 14.27 seconds. She has also qualified for tomorrow’s final in the 400m hurdles. The final heat of the women’s 100m will take place this Saturday at 2:10 pm; the 400m hurdle finals will take place at 3:35 pm (both times are Central zone). Also earlier today freshman Mike Bauer (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) finished fourth in the nation in the men’s long jump with a program record leap of 23' 9 1/2". With this finish, Bauer has earned All-American honors. The NCAA Division III outdoor track & field championships will conclude tomorrow. Berdan is also competing in the men’s 5,000m and senior Pablo Callejas (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) and sophomore Jason Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bowie) will be competing in the triple jump. |
