FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Senior Greg Wetzel Named the 2005 MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Wetzel , a captain of the Etown men’s cross country team in the 2005 season, finished 114th in the nation at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in 2005. In addition to being a national qualifier in the 2005 cross country season, he was also an All-Mideast Region Team member as a result of finishing 21st at the Mideast Regional Championships, and he was an All-MAC First Team member by finishing ninth at the MAC Championships in October. In his four-year cross country career, Wetzel competed at the NCAA Division III Championships twice. He was an All-Mideast Region Team member four times, and he earned All-MAC First Team honors three times and All-MAC Second Team honors once. He was also the 2002 MAC Rookie of the Year. Also a member of the Elizabethtown indoor and outdoor men’s track & field teams, Wetzel holds program records in the indoor 4x800m relay (7:47.54), the indoor 1000m (2:33.70), the outdoor 4x800m relay (7:44.97) and the outdoor distance medley relay (10:25.67). In indoor track & field, he has earned MAC event championships in the 4x400m relay in 2005, the 4x800m relay in 2004, the 800m in 2003, and the 4x800m relay in 2003. He was also a Second Team All-MAC honoree in the indoor 1500m in 2004. In outdoor track & field, Wetzel was a MAC champion in the 800m in 2004, a MAC silver medalist in the 4x400m in 2004, and an All-MAC Second Team honoree in the 800m in both 2005 and 2003. Academically, Wetzel has earned spots on the MASCAC All-Academic Team every season since fall 2003. He is an Elizabethtown College Hershey Foods Honors Program member and a College Presidential Scholar, and he has been a member of the College’s Dean’s List every semester since fall 2002. He is majoring in mathematics education at Elizabethtown College. The Elizabethtown College men’s cross country team won its College-record seventh consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference championship in 2005. The team also finished fifth in the Mideast Region and sent three runners to compete as individuals in the NCAA Division III Championships, the most in the history of the program. |
