ALTOONA, Pa. --- Elizabethtown saw mixed results at a tri-meet hosted by Penn State-Altoona Saturday, falling to host PSU-Altoona 3-2 and defeating Mt. Aloysius 3-0. The Blue Jays are now 2-3 overall in 2000.
In a long first match of the day, Etown took an early lead over PSU-Altoona by winning the first game 16-14. The Blue Jays fell in the second game 15-2, but came back to win the third 16-14 again. Etown lost a close fourth game 15-13, and lost the fifth rally-point game by a thin 16-14 margin.
Gabriella Clarke (Woodlyn, PA/Ridley) led Etown with 23 kills, the eighth-most in a single match in program history, and seven blocks.
Tess Romiti (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) dished out 54 assists for the Blue Jays, the fifth most in a match in Etown history.
Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) led the team with 17 digs and swatted 22 kills, the ninth-highest single match total in program history.
The Blue Jays came back later that afternoon to inflict a 15-10, 15-9, 15-9 pounding on Mt. Aloysius. Morris had a team-high 11 kills, while Casey Miller (Patton, PA/Cambria Heights) led the Blue jays with 12 digs.
Etown returns to action at home Tuesday, September 12 to open its Commonwealth Conference season against regional power Moravian. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
