Elizabethtown Sweeps DeSales and Philadelphia Biblical in Final Regular-Season Home Matches

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College volleyball team posted a pair of victories in non-conference action on Friday night at Thompson Gymnasium to improve to 24-6 on the season.

The Blue Jays, ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic region in this week's NCAA Division III regional rankings, downed Philadelphia Biblical University 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-28) in their opening match and blanked DeSales University 3-0 (30-13, 30-20, 30-26) in their second match.

Against Philadelphia Biblical, senior Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) finished with a match-high 11 kills while senior Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) added 10 kills.

Senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) dished out 33 assists and posted a team-high 10 digs, and senior Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added nine digs for the Blue Jays.

Carly Plank led the Crimson Eagles (23-5 overall) with 10 kills, while Betsy Ranck handed out 29 assists and Kay Lynn Zeiset notched a match-high 15 digs.

Against DeSales, Downs finished with a match-high 13 kills and eight blocks while Whitmarsh added nine kills. Wasserman dished out 26 assists and added 13 digs, and Kassis recorded a match-high 18 digs for Elizabethtown.

The Bulldogs (18-7 overall) were led by 11 kills from Jen Mellon, while Sharon Uliana distributed 24 assists and picked up 14 digs. Kerri Andrews finished with a match-high 22 digs for DeSales, which defeated Philadelphia Biblical 3-2 in Friday's other match.

Prior to the DeSales match, the Blue Jays honored the six senior members of the squad: Downs, Wasserman, Whitmarsh, Kassis, Jenna Schirmer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and student assistant coach Megan Monahan (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg).
