Elizabethtown Moves to Commonwealth Conference Finals With 3-0 Win over Widener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- For the second straight year, the Elizabethtown College volleyball team advanced to the Commonwealth Conference finals after defeating Widener University 3-0 (30-18, 30-25, 30-17) in semifinal action at Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Blue Jays (30-6 overall), who reached the 30-win plateau for the first time since 1988, will host Lebanon Valley College in Saturday's championship match after the Dutchmen outlasted Messiah College 3-2 in Wednesday's other semifinal match.

Sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) led the Blue Jays with nine kills and 14 digs, while seniors Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) and Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) along with sophomore Kayla Deats (Middlebury Center, PA/Wellsboro) had seven kills apiece.

Senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) finished with 25 assists and 14 digs while senior Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) also posted 14 kills for Elizabethtown. Wasserman also recorded five of the Blue Jays' eight service aces while Downs led the squad with four blocks.

Widener (14-17 overall) was led by Kim Brady, who finished with nine kills, while Devan Green and Danielle Wetling had six kills apiece. Becky Rohrbaugh handed out a team-high 24 assists, and Julieanne Gryn posted a team-high 16 digs.
