HAVERFORD, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College volleyball team was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament with a 3-0 loss to host Haverford College on Friday evening, by scores of 33-31, 31-29 and 30-25.

The Fords (31-2 overall) will play defending champion Juniata College on Saturday night for the right to advance to next weekend's NCAA quarterfinals at Illinois Wesleyan University.

The Blue Jays (32-7 overall) saw their season come to a end, but not before claiming the first conference championship and winning the first NCAA tournament game in program history.

Sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) led the Blue Jays with 14 kills and 20 digs while senior Kelly Downs (Airville, PA/Red Lion) added 12 kills and six blocks and senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) posted 37 assists and 20 digs.

Laura Nuyen led Haverford with 15 kills and 23 digs, with Rebecca Salvo adding 13 kills and 10 digs and Emily Hinchcliff dishing 49 assists to go with 12 digs.

Game one was a see-saw affair that saw the Fords stave off three game points and rally for a 33-31 victory. Tanner led the Blue Jays with six kills while Downs and senior Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) added four apiece and Wasserman led with 16 assists and eight digs.

In the second game, Haverford scored the final two points to break a 29-29 tie and come away with a 31-29 win. Downs led the Blue Jays with five kills in game two, with Wasserman adding 13 assists. Senior Kayla Kassis (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and Tanner shared the team lead with four digs in the game.

In game three, the Blue Jays trailed 27-25 but the Fords tallied the final three points of the match on a kill by Nuyen and two Blue Jay hitting errors. Tanner had team highs of four kills and 10 digs in the game, with Wasserman recording eight assists and nine digs.

Downs finished her illustrious four-year career as the Blue Jays' career leader with 1,532 kills and 585 blocks, while Wasserman will graduate as the program leader with 4,576 assists while ranking third with 1,435 digs.

In addition, Whitmarsh ranks second with 1,331 kills and Kassis closes her career in seventh place with 1,046 digs.
