Liz Fretz Scores 150th Career Goal as Etown Falls to McDaniel 19-7 in Season Opener

WESTMINSTER, Md. --- Elizabethtown fell 19-7 on the road in its 2005 season opener to McDaniel College of the Centennial Conference, which improved to 1-0 overall with the win, Thursday. Elizabethtown senior Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts), who entered the season with 146 career goals, tallied six more against McDaniel to become the first Etown lacrosse player ever to reach the 150 career goal plateau.

McDaniel took a 9-3 lead into halftime as Fretz scored two of Etown's goals and Danielle Grooms (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) scored the other off a Fretz assist. Fretz scored all four of the Blue Jays' second half goals. Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) added one assist for Etown, and Dana White (Freeland, MD/Hereford) led the team in ground balls with seven.

McDaniel held a 41-20 advantage in shots over Etown, and Blue Jay goalie Kelly O'Connor (Newtown, CT/Westover School) made 15 saves.

Kristin Ramey led McDaniel in scoring with six goals, and Connie Wuenschel and Sarah Rains each added four goals for the Green Terror. McDaniel goalie Lindsay O'Steen made eight saves.

Etown will return to action Saturday, March 5 at Montclair State University in a 1:00 p.m. game.
