Etown Finishes Eighth at 2002 MAC Championships; Eric Boyle Finishes Fourth at 125 Pounds

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown concluded the 2001-02 season with an eighth place finish at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, hosted by Messiah College, Friday and Saturday. Highlighting the Blue Jays' performances was a fourth-place finish by Eric Boyle (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) at 125 pounds.

Boyle, who was seeded fourth in his weight class at the tournament, won on a pin in his first round match at 3:58 against Delaware Valley's Michael Weston. Boyle lost an 8-4 decision to number one seeded and eventual conference champion Mitch Marcks of King's in the semifinal round.

Dropping to the consolation semifinals, Boyle again won on a pin, this time defeating Wilkes' Jeremy Mayer in just 0:47. Boyle fell in a rematch against Weston in the third place bout on a pin at 6:23.

At 133 pounds, Tom Elicker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) reached the consolation semifinals after defeating Scranton's Jose Cortez on a 7-3 decision in the consolation first round.

Also, 157-pounder Nick Myles (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) reached the championship semifinals. The fifth seed in the tournament, he knocked off fourth-seeded Anthony Politi of Scranton on a 13-5 major decision before losing a 13-5 major decision to top-seeded Dave Shafer of King's.

Delaware Valley won the MAC Championships with100.5 points.
