WADE BREAKS ETOWN CAREER POINT RECORD, BUT BLUE JAYS FALL TO WEST CHESTER, 3-2, IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell in a bittersweet, double overtime cliffhanger to the NCAA Division II West Chester Golden Rams, 3-2, Saturday.  There was cause for celebration, however, despite the close loss.

Elizabethtown senior forward Kristy Wade (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph), who already owns school single season records in almost every major offensive category, reached the first of what will probably be several career milestones this season.  32:20 into the second period, Wade scored a goal on a penalty kick, giving her 157 career points, breaking the former Elizabethtown career point record of 156 set by Amy Hyde between 1989 and 1992.  Wade's goal also tied the game and sent it into overtime.

The goal was Wade's third of the season and the 62nd of her career.  This puts her one goal away from tying the Blue Jay career record for goals of 63, also set by Hyde in 1992.  Wade also has 33 career assists, three shy of Elizabethtown's career record of 36 set in 1992 by Kathy Hensinger.

Also scoring for the Blue Jays was Jen Helsel (Minoa, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) on an assist from Andrea Thompson (Reading, PA/Holy Name).

West Chester jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from Christina Almquist. Helsel evened the score in the first eight minutes of the second period.  Goals by Christine Duffin and Wade made the score 2-2 by the end of regulation time.  West Chester won the game 2:59 into the second overtime on a goal by Heather Allgyer.

The Blue Jays return to action Tuesday, September 14 at Juniata.  Game time is 4:00 p.m.
