ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown Blanks Albright 9-0 READING, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference Monday with a 9-0 road win over Albright College, which dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Three Elizabethtown players competed in their first collegiate singles matches Monday, and two of them made their collegiate debuts. Competing in collegiate matches for the first time, first-year students Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) and Steph Dougherty (Cinnaminson, NJ/Holy Cross) each registered 6-0, 6-0 wins at number four and number five singles, respectively. Additionally, first-year student Natalie Jamieson (Ellicott, MD/Howard) played in her first collegiate singles match in singles at number six and won 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Russell teamed with Jamieson, who had already played in one previous doubles match for Etown this season, to win an 8-0 shutout at number three. Also winning for Etown in singles was junior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) at number one, 5-7, 7-5, (10-2); first-year student Cathie Martinez (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) at number two, 6-1, 6-1; and sophomore Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) 6-0, 6-0 at number three. Other doubles wins for Etown included Smith and Yu by an 8-2 margin at number one, and seniors Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) by an 8-2 margin at number two. Elizabethtown will return to action at home Thursday, September 21 against Johns Hopkins University in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match. at Reading, Pa. |
