Elizabethtown College Women's Track and Field Elizabethtown College Track & Field Teams Finish with Distinction at the NCAA Division III Championships DECATUR, Ill. – In only their fifth season of competition, Elizabethtown College men’s and women’s track & field teams continued to prove themselves as national powers at the Division III championships held May 27-29, 2004 at Millikin University. The men’s team finished tied for sixth place, ahead of the University of Chicago, Williams College, and Middlebury College. The women’s team finished in 15th place, ahead of Tufts University, Bryn Mawr, and Haverford College. In the last day of competition today, senior Dave Berdan (Dingman’s Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) finished sixth in the nation in the men’s 5,000m in a time of 14:58.19. On Thursday, he finished second in the nation in the men’s 10,000m with a time of 30:42.07, less than a second behind the national champion from the University of Chicago. He earned All-American honors. Senior and team co-captain Carrie Kerna (MacMurray PA/Peters Township) ran today in the finals of both the women’s 100m and 400m hurdles. (She had qualified for the finals in the 100m with a personal best with of 14.27 seconds and a personal best in the 400m hurdles of 62.29 seconds.) She finished at the national runner-up in the 100m hurdles in 14.35 seconds, finishing a scant 0.02 seconds behind the national champion. She finished sixth in the nation in the 400m hurdles with a time of 62.81. She earned All-American honors. Senior Pablo Callejas (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) and sophomore Jason Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Bowie) competed today in the triple jump, where both qualified for the finals. Callejas finished fourth in the nation with a personal best leap of 48’ 8 ¼”; Patterson finished ninth in the nation with a leap of 47’ 9 ¾”. Callejas earned All-American honors. On Friday freshman Mike Bauer (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) finished fourth in the nation in the men’s long jump with a personal and program record leap of 23' 9 1/2". With this finish, Bauer earned All-American honors. On Thursday, junior Melissa St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) finished second in the nation in the women’s 10,000m with a time of 36:19.96. With this finish, she earned All-American honors. Earlier this year, she earned All-American honors in cross country and indoor track & field, the first time an Elizabethtown College athlete has earned All-American honors three times in the same year. |
