Tyson Evensen & Erin Lichti Compete for Elizabethtown on First Day of NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships; Lichti Sets Etown 200m Record

LISLE, Ill. --- Elizabethtown junior Tyson Evensen (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) competed in the men’s 1500m trials, and Blue Jay senior Erin Lichti (Shickley, NE/Shickley Public) competed in the women’s 200m trials, on the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. Thursday.

In the men’s 1500m trials, Evensen placed eighth in his heat with a time of 3:42.18, missing qualifying for Saturday’s 1500m finals by less than three seconds. With the two trial heats combined, he finished 14th in the nation in the 1500m.

In the women’s 200m trials, Lichti finished fifth in her heat with a time of 24.90 seconds. She missed qualifying for Saturday’s 200m finals by just 0.17 second. Out of 20 competitors in three heats, Lichti finished the season 10th in the nation in the 200m. Nine runners made the finals. Lichti entered the championships ranked 19th in the event, and she improved her position in the country by nine places by racing the first sub-25 second 200m of her career and setting a new Elizabethtown program record.

Also, Etown sophomore Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) was to have competed in the men’s pole vault Thursday, but due to weather that event was postponed to 11:00 a.m. Friday.

In addition to Clark in the pole vault, Evensen will also compete for Elizabethtown Friday in the men’s 800m trials, which will begin at 5:20 p.m.
